The Lonely Crowd

This is a poem by David Hammond.

Sunlight sparkles on the midnight snow
The air is a hundred degrees
I can't escape, so away I go
Afoot with the ground at my knees

The vicious dance of a peaceful sleep
I can feel that my body is numb
It must be the joy that is making us weep
And the knowledge that's making us dumb
